Contest impressions from Wellenwerk

Press factsheet

Wellenwerk Berlin opened in November 2019 at Landsberger Allee 270 in Berlin, featuring a citywave®, an artificially generated, standing deepwater wave. The wave reaches up to 1.6 meters high, the pool measures 10 × 18 meters, and the water stays at around 27°C year-round. The hall covers roughly 1,000 m², with more than 50 sessions held every week. A support bar makes getting started possible even without prior experience.

Wellenwerk was founded by a seven-person team, financed through equity, bank loans, and public grants. The hall runs on 100% green electricity and uses its own heat recovery system.

As a contest venue, Wellenwerk has hosted the German Indoor Surfing Championship since 2020, runs its own competition with the Berlin Surf Open (held three times so far: 2023, 2024, 2025), and was a stop on the nationwide o2 SURF MASTERS Tour in 2026.

What people have written about us

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung profiled Wellenwerk in its travel feature “Aloha, Deutschland” (Oct 26, 2025); on surfing the standing wave, it reads: “[…] it feels like dancing in place.” Further coverage includes Tagesspiegel as well as lebegeil.de, surfnomade.de, and inlandsurfing.de.
